Job Summary
This position is responsible within expertise for leading one-on-one or small group lessons/tutoring that caters to the needs and goals of the college students.
Responsibilities
• Is responsible to understand, support, and carry out the college's mission, vision, and values and comply with mandates and regulations of government and accrediting bodies.
• Reviews classroom/curricula topics and assignments to be knowledge of subject matter
• Assists students with homework, projects, test preparation, papers, research and other academic tasks
• Works with students to help them understand key concepts, especially those learned in the classroom
• Teaches skills to improve academic performance, including study strategies, note-taking skills and approaches to answering test questions
• Demonstrates academic best practices for specific subjects and assignments, including research and writing tactics
• Develops and distributes teaching materials to supplement classroom lessons, including study guides
• Conducts practice tests to track progress, identify areas of improvement and help set goals for exam preparation
• Provides students positive and constructive feedback
• Offers feedback on progress to students and teach where appropriate
• Builds meaningful connections with students
• Diagnoses student needs through active listening techniques and questioning strategies
• Recognizes different learning styles and student preferences
• Designs differentiated learning goals
• Stays up to date with the college curriculum.
• Develops original materials for training sessions and tutoring sessions.
• Reviews class material with students by discussing text, working solutions to problems, or reviewing worksheets or other assignments.
• Performs other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
• Knowledge and level of competency with a course of study related to the subject or testing format in which they will assist students - degree required depends on subject ' may require completion of an associate or baccalaureate degree.
• Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of tutoring usually interpreted to require three (3) to five (5) years of related experience
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated
• Optional certification from the National Tutoring Association, American Tutoring Association, Association for the Coaching and Tutoring Profession or the College Reading and Learning Association
Proposed Salary
Commensurate with experience and education.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills to clearly explain challenging concepts, provide instructions and deliver feedback
• Ability to motivate and encourage students to improve their academic performance using effective goal-setting strategies
• Creativity and flexibility in order to personalize their learning approach for individual students
• Patience and compassion for students as they develop skills and improve their performance
• Previous demonstrated excellence in the academic subject in which they plan to tutor or on the test for which preparing students for taking
