Job Summary

 

This position is responsible for assisting in leading, directing, and managing Georgia Highlands College's Advising department and advising-related initiatives and programs.

 

Responsibilities

 

• Is responsible to understand, support, and carry out the college's mission, vision, and values and comply with mandates and regulations of government and accrediting bodies.

• Assists with developing, implementing, and evaluating new advising programs designed to improve student persistence and success.

• Manages, supervises, and coordinates the activities of advising staff

• Serves on various committees and advisory groups; co-chair for GHC Charger Orientations

• This role is designed by the institution as a Position of Trust

• Assists in the planning, development, and implementation of face-to-face and online advising

• Performs supervisory responsibilities such as managing, training, and evaluating academic advisors

• Works with department heads and deans to ensure academic advisors are updated on all college and departmental advising policies and procedures.

• Develops and implements advising training programs for students, faculty, and academic advisors based on the policies and rules of the state and college.

• Tracks usage of academic advising and conducts departmental assessment

• Generates and analyzes data related to academic advising services.

• Advises a caseload of students

• Participates in College initiatives and events to benefit students and the college

• Performs related duties

 

Required Qualifications

 

• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field

• Sufficient experience to understand and apply the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for four to six years

• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated

 

Proposed Salary

 

$55,000 - $59,000 annually

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

 

• Knowledge of University System of Georgia and Georgia Highlands College policies and procedures.

• Knowledge of best practices in academic advising.

• Knowledge of Banner advising/registration system.

• Knowledge of survey and assessment tools.

• Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.

• Knowledge of relevant federal, state and local government guidelines.

• Knowledge of system and college policies regarding enrollment, student support services, work study/financial aid, registration, and testing.

• Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions

• Skill in oral and written communication
