Two Big Events. One Green Building Initiative!

Cartersville, GA — There is no refuting that Cartersville is quickly becoming an Atlanta suburb.
Although thoughts of additional dining and shopping options are exciting, some worry about our quaint town turning from a unique secret to a sea of builder neighborhoods and strip malls.

More than 4,000 jobs are expected to be added over the next five years and Avatron expects
to employ around 2,400. There will be a need for green/sustainable energy efficient home solutions.
Leah and Ivan Phillips, Cartersville residents, and Stephen Fookes, a resident of New Zealand currently living in Cartersville, are passionate about our environment and have launched Paragon Wool
Products. Paragon manufactures wool knops and batting for use in the bedding and furniture
industries as well as for insulation in the built environment.

Wool is special! It is inherently flame retardant, hypoallergenic, and manages moisture, which results in healthier living spaces. Many are aware that wool is sustainable, biodegradable, and recyclable, but wool also filters harmful VOC’s from the air, such as formaldehyde, and takes in 1.8 times its weight in CO2 emissions. To top it off, wool used as insulation has an exceptional R-value of 23.3 at 4” and is acoustically exceptional.

Paragon Wool Products is proud to host two events on Friday, November 11th. Both events share the goal of painting the town “green,” and showing that Cartersville is not only ready to build for tomorrow, but is ramping up for the future via smart building.

THE FIRST EVENT, sponsored by the Campaign For Wool NZ, is a day-long professional event geared to architects, interior designers, and building professionals, and takes place at the Booth Western Art Museum. This event will offer a day of education with three continuing education courses, along with a tour of the Booth Museum and the Magnolia Show House. All proceeds will go to
Advocates for Children.

The first course of three courses is sponsored by The Campaign for Wool. It will be presented by Leah Phillips & Stephen Fookes and focuses on the inherent benefits of wool in the Home Furnishings & Built Environment. The second course is sponsored by Atlanta’s Southface Energy Institute and is taught by Bourke Reeve. This course discusses energy efficiency in historic structures. The third course is being taught by Wellness Within Your Walls founder Jillian Pritchard Cooke and uncovers the reduction of harmful toxins during the design-build process.

THE SECOND EVENT takes place at 6 pm at the Henson-Welsh House owned by the Ferguson Family. Kristi and Will Ferguson have restored this home while taking sustainability and energy efficiency to the next level. Tours will be available. This event is geared to historic homeowners and celebrates the conclusion of the Magnolia Show House and the Etowah Valley Historical Society’s Tour of Homes. The evening’s theme is “Gaining Energy Efficiency Within Your Historic Home.” The speaker, Donny Holmes, from Georgia Northwestern Technical College in Calhoun, GA is the Program Director/Instructor of their Construction Management Program. He will speak about Home Energy Audits and will show examples of how an audit is conducted. Georgia Northwestern Technical College will be offering energy audits for half price, $250, for those who are interested.
