10…9…8…7…6…5…4…3…2…1. As the countdown to year’s end draws near, take some time to reflect on 2012 and prepare for 2013!
As the Leadership Bartow Alumni Association (LBAA) rounds out its second year, we enter 2013 with excitement and anticipation. Over the past 12 months, the LBAA has made a conscious effort to establish several functional practices for the benefit of future alumni.
First, in a combined effort to streamline the Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Programs, members from Adult and Youth Leadership steering committees and Alumni Association Board members came together to help make the leadership program more cohesive. By doing so, the LBAA has structured itself to help current Leadership classes with programing, references, and by volunteering their time. In 2012, members of LBAA teamed up with the current Leadership class to participate in their Community Service Day.
Second, a founding principle of the LBAA is to develop an Alumni Directory. This project is a vital resource. Members of the programs and association will look to this directory as a tool. Its exclusive nature brings added excitement and a solid foundation to build upon for years to come. The directory is set to be completed each year by the time of the Chamber’s Annual Meeting (January). It will include information on both Youth and Adult Leadership programs and classes, a complete listing of LB Alumni, and those associated on Chamber and leadership boards and/or committees.
Third, continued growth. As board members of the LBAA, we want to provide our constituents with a sense of value to the organization. Opportunities, resources, and experiences are well worth the minimal cost to be a member of LBAA.
Nearly 28 years ago, the Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce launched Leadership Bartow. Fast forward almost three decades and you can find over 450 graduates of the program. As outgoing LBAA Chair, I encourage all Leadership Bartow alumni to get involved as dues are up for renewal. An old saying goes “You can only get out what you put in.” and I, both professionally and personally, have benefited from my efforts through Leadership Bartow and the Leadership Bartow Alumni Association!
