Dear Community Supporters,
We cordially invite you to participate as a sponsor of the 1st annual Downtown Cartersville 5K Run Supporting Backpack Buddies.
The Backpack Buddies Program provides children in Cartersville City and Bartow County schools from food-insecure homes with weekend meals during the school year. Local corporations, civic groups, churches, and individuals help collect and pack bags with kid-friendly non-perishable food. The children receive a backpack containing nutritious, self-serve food that will sustain them when school meals are not available. The children are selected by school principals, guidance counselors, social workers, and various after school programs who identify the "at-risk" child. The program began as a pilot project in fall 2010 serving 60 students. Today, they are serving a combined total of 1000 students.
Fast Facts about Backpack Buddies:
- Approximately 60% of children in our service area receive free or reduced price meals at school.
- $5 per week provides a child a backpack filled with nutritious food each weekend.
The Downtown Cartersville 5K Run to support Backpack Buddies will be held on Saturday, August 26, in Downtown Cartersville. The event will kick off at 8:00 a.m. for the 5K Run/Walk. The Family Fun Run will start at 9:00 a.m. and is 1 mile in length. Awards will be given for top qualifiers of the 5K.
Your sponsorship helps to defray the cost of organizing the event. Any additional money from sponsorships will help go toward our fundraising goal of $10,000.
There are various levels of sponsorships for the Downtown Cartersville 5K Run. Size and placement of logos on t-shirts and Downtown Development Authority web site are based on sponsorship level. Even a small contribution can have a big impact, so I am asking you to support the 2017 Downtown Development Cartersville 5K Run by coming on as a sponsor. The tangible benefits are outlined in the attached pages, and your contribution is tax deductible.
