CARTERSVILLE EXCHANGE CLUB CHRISTMAS PARADE RAISES OVER $12,000 FOR LOCAL NON PROFITS. ESSAY WINNERS GET TO RIDE WITH SANTA AND MRS. CLAUS

CARTERSVILLE, GA-DECEMBER 12, 2014
: The 2014 Cartersville Exchange Club Christmas Parade grossed $12,233.90 from this year’s parade registrations and donations to the Bucket Brigade.

$8,775 came from parade registrations and $3,458.90 came from Bucket Brigade donations. “We had more donations to the Bucket Brigade than any past year”, said Lou Otos, Exchange Club member and 2014 Parade Chair. “We are so appreciative of everyone who gave to the Bucket Brigade. It took us longer to make the parade route due to so many people making donations to the Bucket Brigade this year.”

All money raised from entry fees and the Bucket Brigade goes directly to child-related charities here in Bartow County including Advocates for Children, the Boys and Girls Club of Bartow County, Bartow Christmas Coalition and the Etowah Scholarship Foundation.

Judges once again had a tough time selecting float winners with so many beautiful floats. Below is the list of winners and The Exchange Club would like to congratulate everyone on a great job of creating their floats.

The Exchange Club added something new to the pre parade activities this year by hosting an essay contest for 2nd graders at Cartersville Primary School. The kids were asked to write an essay on why they love Christmas.  Two essays were selected as the most inspiring essays. The lucky winners got to ride in the sleigh with Santa and Mrs. Claus. The authors of the winning essays were Logan Woody and Valeria Luzon (photo attached).

“Next year we will expand the contest but since this was our first year we decided to try it out with one school to see how it went”, said Kevin McElwee DVM, and Exchange Club member. “We received over 200 essays and it was a tough decision to select the winners. We look forward to making this an annual contest each year. The kids were so excited to get to ride with Santa and Mrs. Claus and the feeling was mutual from Santa and Mrs. Claus,” said McElwee.
