Bartow County School System Seeking Mentors for REACH Georgia

REACH Georgia is a state sponsored scholarship with a goal of making post-secondary education more accessible to students.  Each year, five 8th graders are selected after an application and interview process.  These students must continue to earn good grades, have good attendance, and demonstrate appropriate behavior.  Each student that fulfills the requirements can earn $10,000 toward postsecondary education.  Depending on the school they choose to attend, this amount can be matched or even double-matched.  Yes, that means they can earn up to $30,000!

One of the reasons REACH Georgia is successful is that each scholar is paired with a mentor.  Mentors are members of the community that visit the student twice monthly, at school, for 30 minutes at a time, to offer support and encouragement.  We ask that a mentor commit for one school year.  For the fall of 2019 – 2020, we are looking for male and female mentors to visit middle and high school students.

There will be a brief orientation and all mentors will need to be fingerprinted for a background check.  You choose the days you would like to visit.  The time for our 8th graders is typically between 8 – 10 am, and high school is around lunch time, when the students are not in core academic classes.
