August First Friday in Downtown Cartersville
Kid’s activities, various food and beverage vendors, and free concert

CARTERSVILLE – The Cartersville Downtown Development Authority invites you to the August First Friday event, “Summer of Love.” Sponsored by Mellow Mushroom of Cartersville, the event will take place on Friday, August 1, at Friendship Plaza in historic downtown Cartersville.

This completely FREE event will start at 5 PM with a few kid’s activities including coloring fun and sidewalk chalk. Musical entertainment will be provided by Tribute, A Celebration of the Allman Brothers Band who will play from 7-9 PM. As stated on the band’s website, “Tribute seeks to recreate that unique period in American rock, when psychedelia ebbed and ABB informed us what jazz, rock, country and blues could sound like.”

There will also be vendors at this event, including delicious food from Louie’s Café, and frozen treats from Coconuts. Cartersville School of Ballet will be offering children’s activities, and Cartersville Florist will offer flowers to purchase – perfect addition for ladies to put in their hair. With City Council approving this event as a Community Festival, there will also be adult beverages available for purchase at this event from 6-9 PM.

“We are so excited about the August First Friday, and feel it will be a great evening for families to come out and enjoy music, food and fun,” said Special Events Coordinator Catherine Woods. “Our children’s activities have been a great addition to the First Friday events this summer, and we of course love having other downtown businesses join us in the Plaza. Through Mellow Mushroom’s sponsorship, and City Council’s approval of our Festival Zone, we also look forward to having beer and wine sells available at this event. We hope to see a lot of folks responsibly enjoying all that downtown has to offer, and in addition to the fun in Friendship Plaza, hope people will be sure to patronize the various shops and restaurants open until 8 PM or later.”

Those interested in purchasing beer or wine during the First Friday event must show proof of age and pay $5 cash to receive a drinking cup, wristband, and ticket for one free drink. Identification must be presented for each adult beverage purchased, and refill costs will vary depending on beverage of choice, cash only. No drinks will be permitted outside the Festival Zone, which will be marked by event fencing, and encompass all of Friendship Plaza and Public Square. Coolers will not be permitted.
