Art, Education, and Celebration

Wow!  It is hard to believe that it has been almost three years since we opened Spring Place Pottery and Artists’ Gallery.

When we first opened, approximately 20 local and regional artists and fine craftspeople were represented.  Today that number has grown to 40.  We are very thankful for the support of our local community and to the many tourists visiting our wonderful town.

During your visit to our gallery you will find not only gorgeous pottery, but also jewelry, paintings, prints, note cards, wooden boxes; ornaments and walking staffs, natural soaps, clay sculpture, piano key art, mixed media projects, writing pens, clay birdhouses, painted glass and windows, jams and jellies, and much more. We carry locally raised fiber and yarns.  We are also a retail outlet for Thymes products.

The gallery became a member of the Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce before we ever had our Grand Opening.  The Chamber has always been supportive of our needs.  There are many networking opportunities, educational workshops, and business showcases offered to support local businesses.  The Chamber also provides a wonderful website to members for listing events that might be happening at their establishment.

In an effort to become more involved with our community we began offering art classes last year and have continued with those this year. These classes are taught by our gallery artists.

This April, Marlis Cornett instructed a mixed media class that involved painting on a vintage tin ceiling tile. Students then embellished these with beads and other found objects to give it a more personal touch.

Earlier this month, Sandy Howell showed students how to paint with Q-tips.  Acrylic paint was applied to a small canvas layer upon layer using Q-tips to create a masterpiece.

June will feature a two day pottery class taught by Mississippi artist Helene Fielder.  This is a hand building class and is geared toward beginners. The class is currently full with a wait list.

All three of these instructors’ beautiful work is for sale in our gallery.

Marlis Cornett’s artwork always involves some component that has been recycled.  She is best known for creating art pieces using the keys and hammers from pianos.

While Sandy Howell works mostly with acrylics, she is also talented in her use of oil and watercolor paints, pastels and colored pencils.  These mediums can be found in her paintings and drawings as well as her notecards.

Helene Fielder’s work involves functional pottery, jewelry, and clay sculpture. Her work has been featured in national clay magazines and we are honored to represent her in our gallery.

More classes will be offered in the future, however those dates have not yet beenfinalized.  Please look for these on our Facebook page or call the gallery for more information.

Spring Place Pottery and Artists' Gallery features an ever-changing collection of work.  We are proud to say that all pottery and artwork offered at Spring Place Pottery and Artists' Gallery is HANDMADE IN AMERICA.
