ADVOCATES FOR CHILDREN PURCHASES NEW TRANSPORTATION VEHICLE WITH THE PROCEEDS FROM WHEEGO FUNDRAISER EVENT

CARTERSVILLE, GA-JULY 11: The children of Advocates’ Flowering Branch Shelter now have a new means of transportation thanks to the generous donations of a corporate partner, the community and several grants.

Earlier this year, a Wheego car was donated for a raffle by Strategic Contract Resources (SCR), a provider of temporary and direct-hire personnel to the Power Industry. Ten dollar tickets were sold as chances to win the electric automobile.

The winner was announced at Advocates’ “Every Child’s a Star” talent show in March of this year. The winning recipient lives out of state and upon notification, graciously donated the vehicle back to Advocates.

“The trade in value of the Wheego vehicle along with the proceeds from the raffle and two grants from the SunTrust Foundation and the Nell Warren Elkin and William Simpson Elkin Foundation allowed us to purchase a 2013 Toyota Sienna van for the transportation needs of the children at the Shelter”, said Karen White, director of development, Advocates for Children.

“We were very much in need of a new vehicle because our current means of transportation had multiple issues, was currently not running and was not economical in terms of fuel. Without an operable vehicle, we were reimbursing staff mileage driven at twice the average rate, meaning this expense doubled last year after our vehicle died. During the school year, we easily cover over a hundred miles a day transporting the children to school, activities and appointments,” said White.

Jerry Robinson, Managing Partner of SCR offered, "The opportunity to donate an electric energy automobile to Advocates for Children was a blessing to our organization.  Advocates does so much for our community, with so few resources. We were excited for Advocates to be able to use the proceeds from the raffle and the car donation to purchase a new vehicle for the children.”

The children of Flowering Branch Shelter, along with the staff that transport the children, are very much enjoying their new, economical vehicle and are so appreciative to those who made this possible.
