Job Description
JOB TITLE: Park Attendant                                                                                                 
 
DEPARTMENT: Parks and Recreation, City of Cartersville
 
JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for maintaining safety and security and reporting any problems to the Direct Report (Director and/or Deputy Director) or the local law enforcement agency.
 
MAJOR DUTIES:
  • Monitors departmental properties, facilities and vehicles to prevent vandalism, fights, break-ins, improper vehicle parking, speeding and other infractions
  • Monitors the safety of employees, visitors and participants that enter and exit the facilities during all activities
  • Monitors daily outdoor activities to oversee crowd behavior and enforce city and departmental rules, regulations and guidelines
  • Transport finances as needed
  • Opens and closes facilities
  • Prepares daily activity reports
  • Attend clinics, seminars and education classes related to job duties
  • Performs other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:
 
  • Knowledge of city ordinances and departmental policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of departmental rules and regulations
  • Knowledge of safety rules
  • Skill in operating a two-way radio
  • Certification in CPR/AED, First Aid techniques and OC spray training
  • Skill in oral and written communication
 
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Park Attendant is assigned work by the Direct Reporting Supervisor. The work is reviewed for compliance with instructions and established procedures along with the nature and propriety of the final results.
 
GUIDELINES: Guidelines include city ordinances and relevant departmental policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
 
COMPLEXITY: The work consists of related Parks, Parking Lot and Facilities security duties.
 
SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to monitor the Parks, Facilities, vehicles and parking lots for security. Successful performance helps ensure the safety of employees and program participants.
 
PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with program participants, members of the general public, co-workers, police officers and firefighters.
 
PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to give and exchange information and provide services.
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is performed while sitting, standing, walking, bicycling, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee must occasionally lift light and heavy objects.
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is performed indoors and outdoors, where the employee is exposed to heat, cold or inclement weather.
 
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: None
 
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated
