Free Tobacco Cessation Class
KICK THE HABIT WITH FREE TOBACCO CESSATION CLASSES AT CARTERSVILLE MEDICAL CENTER
Cartersville, GA; August 19, 2015: Cartersville Medical Center is offers a monthly tobacco cessation class. The class, led by Sandra Bethune, Georgia Department of Public Health, is free of charge and open to anyone interested in quitting tobacco, including cigarettes and smokeless tobacco. The next class is scheduled for Monday, August 24.
“According to the CDC, people who stop smoking greatly reduce their risk for disease and early death. Although the health benefits are greater for people who stop at earlier ages, there are benefits at any age. You are never too old to quit,” says Kim Hogan, RN, evidence based coordinator at Cartersville Medical Center.
Hogan references the CDC website (www.cdc.gov) which includes information about the health benefits of quitting tobacco.
According to the website, stopping smoking is associated with the following health benefits:
- Lowered risk for lung cancer and many other types of cancer.
- Reduced risk for heart disease, stroke, and peripheral vascular disease (narrowing of the blood vessels outside your heart).
- Reduced heart disease risk within 1 to 2 years of quitting.
- Reduced respiratory symptoms, such as coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath. While these symptoms may not disappear, they do not continue to progress at the same rate among people who quit compared with those who continue to smoke.
- Reduced risk of developing some lung diseases (such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, also known as COPD, one of the leading causes of death in the United States).
- Reduced risk for infertility in women of childbearing age. Women who stop smoking during pregnancy also reduce their risk of having a low birth weight baby.
The next class will be offered Monday, August 24th, from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m. in Classroom 1 at Cartersville Medical Center. To register, for more information or future class dates, visit CartersvilleMedical.com and click on “Events & Classes” or call MedLine at 800.242.5662.

Anheuser-Busch Celebrates Summer with Public Tours at Cartersville Brewery
The Anheuser-Busch Cartersville Brewery is celebrating summer by opening its doors for free public tours the last Saturday of every month from May through September. Anheuser-Busch recently opened its doors for a series of special tours in the spring and following a tremendous response the brewery decided to bring it back as a fun summer experience for visitors from around the region. During the hour-long tour, visitors will get a behind-the-scenes look at the seven stages of the time-honored Budweiser brewing process. The tour shows guests the brewhouse, starting cellar, packaging and fermentation areas, beechwood aging cellar and finishing tank. Following the tour, guests 21 and older can sample a variety of the beers brewed at the Cartersville brewery, including Budweiser, Bud Light and Shock Top as well as a special beer brewed exclusively by Cartersville Brewmaster Travis Moore, Etowah Imperial Lager. Tours are available on a first come, first serve basis so guests are encouraged to book their tour ahead of time by visiting
