Tireside Chats: Auotmotive Forensic Photography
Friday, September 6, 2024, 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Join us for an interesting and informative discussion on automotive forensic photography with guest speaker, Tom Vadnais, PE on September 6, 2024, at 7:00 pm. You’ve likely seen all kinds of forensic photographers in movies and on television. The word forensic refers to the application of science to law. In this talk, we’ll see how a variety of techniques are used to gather data for all sorts of automotive and accident scene photographs for use in legal cases. There will be lots of before and after images so you can see the effects of the techniques. We’ll then see how forensic photographs are used in the engineering analysis of an accident or a component failure. (Just so you know, there won’t be any gruesome photos—just damaged vehicles, broken parts, and marks at accident scenes.)
Tom is both a professional photographer and a licensed professional engineer. For more than forty years, he has served as an expert witness in vehicle accident reconstruction and vehicle product liability lawsuits. He is a nationally recognized specialist in tire application and failure analysis.
Since 2018, Tom has been teaching automotive forensic photography classes around the country for the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE International). He also annually presents on automotive forensic photography topics for several international symposiums. In a completely different area of photography, Tom has been teaching landscape and nature photography classes and workshops for more than twenty years.
