21 and up

For our next Museum After Dark event the Bartow History Museum will become a 1940’s canteen and lounge.  On Saturday, January 28, 2017, don your best 1940’s duds, and join us for an evening of drinks and dancing.  Enjoy cocktails and light hors d’oeuvres, listen to jazz of the era, and practice the Rumba and Swing.

The 1940’s was a decade teeming with motion and action.  Punctuated by the war, this time in US history had a unique urgency, whether kissing a sweetheart goodbye, sowing a victory garden, or tuning in to the evening news on the radio.  There was no promise of tomorrow when the world was at war.  “We can do it,” became our slogan as we rallied together to support troops by rationing, assuming war jobs, and volunteering.  Canteens popped up around the country and were places where soldiers, many passing through town on the railroad, could enjoy refreshments and a friendly face.  Larger ones even provided music and the opportunity to dance.  Step back in time with us and show your patriotism at the Cartersville Canteen.

Tickets are $45 and must be purchased in advance.  Attendees will also have the opportunity to purchase Museum Bonds (donation to the museum) to help support the museum’s efforts to preserve Bartow County’s rich history.  The hours are from 7 – 10 p.m.  For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.bartowhistorymuseum.org.
