Name: Learning to be Snake Safe Program & Hike
Date: October 14, 2017
Time: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM EDT
Joey Casey & ball python snake ambassador
Event Description:

Whether you love ‘em or hate ‘em, snakes are a necessary part of nature, helping to control many rodent populations. Learning to co-exist with the snakes that call Georgia home can bring peace of mind as well as keep our ecosystems in balance. The October 14 topics will include snake habitats, how to tell the difference between venomous & non-venomous snakes, and what NOT to do if you come across a snake in the wild or in your yard.

Presenters will be Georgia Reptile Society members Joey & Tammy Casey and Erin Zaballa, GRS Education Coordinator and Preserve Education Assistant. They will bring several native and exotic snake species to view and touch. Programs will be presented at 10:30 & 11:30 am and 12:30 & 1:30 pm

Joey and Tammy Casey have been hobbyist reptile keepers for over 6 years with many snakes, lizards, tortoises, geckos and arachnids in their care. As GRS chapter leaders, Joey and Tammy volunteer at nature centers, schools, the Georgia Renaissance Festival, Atlanta Science Fair and anywhere else they are invited to share their friendly, not so common pets.

Besides the snake program, the Preserve trail will be open for self-led hikes from 10 am - 5 pm. Children’s crafts & interactive activities will also be available all day.

Visitors are asked to arrive no later than 4 pm to begin their hike in order to be finished by the 5 pm closing time.  The hike & program are presented as part of the Preserve’s regular education outreach to the community.

Admission to the Preserve is $3 per person with a maximum of $10 per family, which includes the program and parking. The hike is free to Preserve members and memberships are available by visiting the Preserve’s website.

The Preserve is open to the public the second Saturday of every month. See website for complete program details
