Name: Juneteenth: Freedom Day Display
Date: June 15, 2022 - June 30, 2022
Event Description:
We need your help creating a special display in the Cartersville Library in celebration of Juneteenth - June 15 through June 30, 2022. Our goal is to lift local Black voices of all ages. Consider what Juneteenth, freedom, and community mean to you. Please send photos, poetry, quotes, or art that you would like in the display to meghan@bartowlibrary.org or drop at your local library branch from now until June 14.

Please Note: All Bartow County Library branches will be closed for the official Juneteenth holiday on June 20, 2022.

Juneteenth is a time for celebration of freedom, and it's also a time for learning and reflecting. The library represents a community center for learning, a place for important conversations about the history of race in America, and ideally, a space for racial healing. The goal of the display is to provide a platform for Black voices in our community, of all ages and times in our local history.

We have encouraged the community to submit work of all mediums, including written word and visual art by all ages, photography, old family photos, recipes, and more. The central theme of the display is: "What does Juneteenth, freedom, or community mean to you?" In addition to the submissions, we have added historical and current photos and information on local history, people, and places.

Over the past couple of years we have been working to update and enrich our collection of books by Black novelists, artists, politicians, and activists, and many of these titles will be highlighted during the display, in addition to books on Juneteenth itself. It's a great opportunity for our community to see the wealth of materials we have by Black authors, all in one place.

We hope you will come out and see the display this month!
