“Home Field Advantage: The Northwest Georgia Textile League”
The Bartow History Museum welcomes Heather Shores on Tuesday, August 8, who will discuss the history of baseball in the Northwest Georgia and the creation of the Northwest Georgia Textile League. This league was formed by seven textile mills in the Floyd, Polk, and Bartow County areas and played on a competitive level from the 1920s through the 1940s. The lecture will begin at noon. Participants are encouraged while at the museum to tour Hometown Teams: How Sports Shape America, a traveling Smithsonian exhibition, which will be open through September 9, 2017. About the Speaker
Heather Shores holds a Master’s Degree in Public History from the University of West Georgia. She has been in the museum field for 17 years working at institutions like the Atlanta History Center, Kennesaw State University, and Dalton State College. She has been the Executive Director for Chieftains Museum/Major Ridge Home in Rome, Georgia for four years and teaches U.S. History for Georgia Highlands College.

The Bartow History Museum, located at 4 East Church Street in downtown Cartersville, Georgia, documents the history of northwest Georgia’s Bartow County, spanning more than 200 years since the Cherokee were the area’s primary residents. Artifacts, photographs, documents, and a variety of interactive permanent exhibits tell the story of settlement, Cherokee life and removal, Civil War strife, and lifestyles of years past.
